Our Team's Service Project  -  Out of the Garden Project

Last Wednesday night our team volunteered at the 'Out of the Garden' food warehouse, where we helped "bag" food to fill over 1,000 bags. 7 items were included in each bag - a protein which is a type of canned meat and a can of beans, mac & cheese, a can of soup, crackers or a type of potatoes, a can veggie and a snack bag 'filled with goodies'. These bags will be distributed to children all over Guilford county to help supply them with a little food, this may be the only food that some kids receive over the weekends.
The Out of the Garden Warehouse is located at 300 N Carolina 68, right behind C3 Church.

If you would like help supply food or volunteer at Out of the Garden please check out their website - http://www.outofthegardenproject.org

A little history about Out of the Garden -

Kristy and Don Milholin’s children attend Morehead Elementary School, where they noticed several children who were food insecure. Kristy and Don felt called to help make a difference in these children’s lives, and so in August 2009, they started the Out of the Garden Project in their home around the kitchen table.
The Milholin’s began personally supplying 10 families with a small bag of food each Friday so that those children and their families might have something to eat over the weekend. What began in 2009 helping 10 families with a small bag of food has now grown to the largest organization of its kind in the Piedmont Triad.
Bit by bit, we are changing our little piece of the world – and supporters like you are the heart of that change.
Together, we are taking on what we believe is the greatest epidemic facing the world today: chronic hunger. The problems it causes echo through every corner of our community, robbing so many of our neighbors of their well-being, dignity and potential. The toll hunger takes on our children is most heartbreaking of all.
The free and reduced-price lunches they receive at school are helpful but not enough. And the fact is that without adequate nutrition, children’s brains and bodies will struggle to grow. That makes learning more difficult and their futures more precarious. Thanks to you, we are not standing idly by.
Every month, hundreds of Out of the Garden Project volunteers (600+) take responsibility for making things better. There are many different ways to get involved. Supporters like you collect food, sort it in our warehouse, package it for families and/or deliver it to schools, giving generously of time and financial resources. No contribution is too small, and we need every single one of you to help children and families in our community.
Out of the Garden Project is a story of miracles — the story of amazing things that should not happen but actually do — because people like you come together to move mountains of hunger. This is a story of hope. With your help, we have many more chapters to write, and the families we help have better lives to live. Thank you for all you do in service of our kids and our community.
“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.”

"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sights and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like."
